Josef Albers, Structural Constellation

An essay written by Pine Tree Foundation Fellow from the Godwin-Ternbach Museum, Mary Billyou, Josef Albers Structural Constellation, highlights Alber’s teachings in visual depth perception and in industrial production. An influential abstract painter and art teacher in the 20th Century, Josef Albers, published Interaction of Color in 1963 which laid down the foundational description of color theory (i.e, the interaction, combination, and spectrum of colors within the art-making process.) Mary Billyou explores the history and the construction of Structural Constellation, Carro 64 and Designing Programmes by Karl Gerstner, as well as Agawam by Jacob Drachler from the Godwin-Ternbach Museum collection.
